SPD4459【Vegetarian 素食主義】有機素食Soland - by Ada

A local Italian Cafe in Busy Central - by Hazel

Hey, is Hazel again !!^^

I would like to recommend all of you a total Italian decoration / design at the end of the busy wet market in Central.

One weekday afternoon  I was wandering around Gage Street and then I spotted a cafe tucked away in the wet market on Gage Street. I decided to have a try. It's a small cafe but you can see all the professional coffee equipment squeezing in this small yet cozy cafe. You can also see all the desserts to go with your coffee...

A vintage fridge, I wondered if it's still functioning.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They provide afternoon tea set and on this page
you can find items which can fill you up.
                      The other page is for
                      dessert and cake sets.
Mocha
There was chocolate powder on it. The chocolate taste was about right, not overpowering the coffee taste. Each coffee came with a piece of biscotti which was surprisingly good without being too sweet.
Freshly Made Waffle with Gelato
For tea set, they only served half portion of the waffle and we suspected they would serve a whole waffle for a la carte menu. On the waffle lied the chocolate gelato. The waffle was freshly made and the sides were crunchy while the middle was chewy. It was really delicious!
Lemon Meringue Tart
As I expected, the tart was light and not sweet at all. As much as it was refreshing, the meringue was a bit blend. The lemon filling was smooth and the lemon taste was strong and not artificial. The crust was very thin, not too flaky but good enough.
I was happy to find high quality of food and coffee at a reasonable price here. Next time I would definitely go for a whole waffle!
SPD4459 [Nostalgia懷舊篇] 陸羽茶室Luk Yu Tea House - by Natalie
Hello everyone! It is nostalgic Saturday again. Today i will bring you to another tradition tea house which is called Luk Yu. I think most of you have heard about that!
Luk Yu Tea House founded in 1933, that is a really historical tea house.
There are total three floors in this building. Each floor has three separated rooms. And all the furniture inside are made by sandal wood and padauk wood, which are very valuable among the Chinese-style furniture.
Nostalgic Interior Design
Old style Chinese furniture
Menu of Luk Yu Tea House
Like other Chinese tea house, they have similar types of food offered. Nothing very special, but the environment made the whole meals fantastic :)
Shrimp Dumplings
Super big size "Bun with Cantonese Barbecue-flavored pork meat"
Vegetable Dumplings
 This soup is the "Must Order" item in the tea house.
Soup with almond and the lungs of pig - 杏汁豬肺湯
Black sesame roll
Overall, we were satisfied with the food and also the environment very much. Although we don't have a big surprise at all, we think that the services and atmosphere is very well. It is a good place for you and your family to enjoy an afternoon tea or dinner. Come and Try~
SPD4459 [NightLife 夜蒲篇] South 85--- By Frankco
I was excited to hear that 85 South serves North Carolina BBQ food so stopped by with J to try one early evening. The restaurant was easy to spot with the familiar logo of US highway signs. The interior was gritty and rustic with colorful graffiti covering the bare concrete walls. Several picnic-style tables occupied the main dining space which reminds me of the rest stops along the highways in the US.
The menu was pretty simply with combinations of either pulled pork or ribs. We ended up choosing the Sandwich Tray which consisted of the BBQ sandwich+fries+drink, and the Rib Tray with ribs+slaw+fries+drink. Drinks include homemade lemonade, tea, juices, soda, and beer. Counter service only so we had to bus our own table.
The homemade lemonade was self-served as well in a fridge next to the counter.
All the condiments and utensils were placed on the table already.
The 3 homemade sauces in colorful bottles that caught my eye each with its own unique flavors. The yellow bottle is a mustard based sauce with a honey based sweetness. The red bottle is tomato based with a BBQ flavor. The clear bottle is vinegar based with a peppery taste. I tried all 3 of the sauces but I preferred the tomato based sauce over the others.
We collected our food from the counter when they were ready. The BBQ sandwich in the  Sandwich Tray ($85) was surprisingly scrumptious especially with the coleslaw slathered on top of the pulled pork. The pork was deliciously smoky while BBQ slaw definitely stole the show with its sweet yet tangy flavors.
The Rib Tray ($130) was very disappointing though! The ribs were pitifully dry and bony with very little meat to munch on. This dish was way overpriced at $130 for the portions. Even the homemade sauces couldn't save it.
Overall, the food was alright while the service left a lot to be desired. I mean I don't mind the counter service even though the prices are a bit high for this kind of fast food model. The staff could definitely be friendlier and more helpful especially for first timers. When we were ordering, the guy at the counter was really impatient and didn't want to answer our questions. When we asked him where to get the drinks, he just pointed before turning away aruptly. It just didn't make us feel welcomed and it's these little things that add up when one is deciding where to eat or not.
SPD4459 [Dessert 甜品篇] petite Amanda - by Jun
Hey, dessert time again!! Do you wanna have some "simple, and not too sweet, like authentic French pastries"?! (YES!!!)
Alright, then let me introduce a dessert store called petite Amanda.
petite Amanda is established by Amanda S, a well-known model of French-Taiwanese. Amanda’s passion for pastries began in 2005 when she started her training at the renowned school of culinary arts, Le Cordon Bleu in Paris where she got her first certificate.
Amanda then went on to gain further accreditations including a diploma in pastry. She gained on-the-job experience over the past six years by serving as an apprentice at Caprice in Hong Kong's Four Season Hotel, Ladurée in Paris and Jacques Genin, a small Parisian chocolatier.
And so, with all the practical skills on hand, Amanda decided to follow her childhood dream and opened petite Amanda. Her dream shop took a year of hard work to put together and today she is proud to share with you her passion for pastries at petite Amanda.
Amanda S
Let's see what does petite Amanda have!
Looks delicious and attractive, right? Now, I am going to introduce three types of desserts which gave me a delightful dessert experience!
Mille Feuille
The Mille Feuille is really good! It is made with Puff Pastry & Light Pastry Cream. I would like to recommend you to eat this first since it is light but surprisingly not as light as those tasteless desserts. Fortunately, it is not too sweet so I was not guilty after eating these 3 layers.. Haha!!
Plasir Sucre
After having a light dessert, maybe you can move on to a heavier one. I highly recommend this Plasir Sucre, which is Amanda's favourite pick. It is a heavier dessert since it is made with crunchy wafer-thin chocolate and hazelnut concoction. Not only did it give me a richer flavor, each layer also gave me different texture and melted in my mouth, what an irresistible and pleasant taste!
One more little thing I would like to share with you guys --- the package design.
The package for take-away desserts looks like a pyramid. I really appreciate this design since it makes me think of the Egyptian Pyramid. Is there any mystery inside the pyramid? What will I see when I open the pyramid? Perhaps.. the mysteriously delicious desserts are already a kind of mystery...
It's not surprising to see petite Amanda's desserts on magazines or newspapers.
Rather than watching these photos, why don't you go there and try in person? Maybe you will find your favorite pick!
